Straw Flower Tutorial

Sorry I'm posting late today; this is the first Monday of the Month and my Scrapbook Club planner is due out to my SU! Demo Customers. So I've been busy with that all day. This is actually part of the Planner;  I wanted to give you Demo's a taste of my Scrapbook Club Planners. This months planner actually includes 2 fabric flower techniques in it. Just a heads up; you DO NOT have to be a Demo to purchase my planners, these are perfect for anyone! It is a 12x12 Scrapbook page with matching card planner with full step by step pictures and descriptions on how to recreate.

So here is my Straw fabric flower technique: this was shown on main stage at Leadership this year.

1. Cut a small snip in your fabric at 1/2", tear up to make a strip.  Cut into 3, 6" strips of fabric.  I'm using the new Sweet Stitches Fabric 121818. Layer your fabric like picture: make an 'X" and layer last one through center.

 2. Fold each end up to the center; this is the BACK of your flower.

 3. Make sure you are happy with the placement of your petals.

4. Use your Crop a Dile on the 1/8" punch setting, and punch a hole in the center of the flower making sure, all ends are pierced.  Insert brad of choice; this one is Sweet Stitches Fabric Brad.  For my card, I used a tiny brad and glue dotted a button on top.

Today's card was inspired by Mary Fish's card she did for Mojo Monday last week.  Mojo Monday is a great place for card layouts, and Mary's samples are great.  I really liked the color choices she picked, so I chose a similar one.  The supplies I used for this card are all available in the NEW Occasions Mini: The Create a Cupcake Stamp set (121982 clear) and the matching Build a Cupcake Punch (12187).  How cute are these?? I LOVE them!!  I also used the awesome new Glitter Paper (121790) to punch out that adorable cherry and the mini hearts.  The cherry is punched from the Cupcake Punch! Seriously, that punch ROCKS!

My technique on my cupcake is so cute in real life; but my lack of photography skills does it no justice at all. I call this Faux Epoxy: I'm sure this technique has been done before, and called something different, but here is my version. 

Faux Epoxy Technique

•  Punch out 4 cupcake tops in Chocolate Chip C/S(if you use Whisper White you'll need more layers, 6-7)
• Snail all layers together
• Covered the top with a  layer with Crystal Effects: go slowly and cover completely
•  Sprinkle on some Champagne  Glass Glitter (120997) and  lay on a  punched out cherry on top.  Set it aside to dry and add it to your card

Double Mount Punch Technique

Hi Everyone

Today's card is for my upcoming Technique Club this Sunday...there are few things I may tweak on it by then...like the HI needs to be stamped closer together,the bird needs to be Cherry Cobbler, and I may change the size of the mattes, I think my white is too big! But this is the gist of the card.  The technique they will be learning is how to double mount the fantastic new punch in the Holiday Mini,XL Decorative Label 120907.  My awesome friend Ang, the Northshore Stamper has made a great video on this technique, so you can go check it out HERE!  My Club Girls will be watching this at class on Sunday!  She did a great job!

OK, I am feeling the need to redeem myself...since I have been sick, I've kinda lost my MOJO and I feel the need to prove to myself, and YOU, that I am good at crafting!  So luckily for me, today is Twisted Sketches #70, with the twist being "pin"; scrapbooking, my FAV!  I really spent a lot of time putting this LO together, and I am very please with the results. There are a lot of little details on here if you look closely, all the buttons are threaded with Linen Thread. I think it's the small details that make the difference.  The little leaves at the top were cut out with the Leaves #2 Die from Cajun Craze and More Mustard card stock; I then took my bone folder and grooved in the leave veins, then I sponged Cajun Craze to add some depth.  Then I curled them with my bone folder, and pushed through some pearl ended pins. It's hard to see the details in the picture, sorry.

How about my flower?? Do you like it! You guys know how much I love making my own flowers...so in my true style, I made this one too!  With my favorite Die, Circle #2!  I came across this great tutorial on the web for making sunflowers but I didnt' have all the supplies that they used, so I worked with what I had and made this flower instead.  I thought you would like a tutorial on it. 

Step 1: Cut out your Polyester fabric with your Big Shot and Circle #2 Die.  You will need 4 large, 3 Medium, 3 Small, 2  XS.

Step #2. Cut into your circles, to make petals. Just straight cuts all the way around the circles.

Step #3. Take a candle; I used a tea light; and singe the end of each petal.  Don't stick it in the flame, just very close, and it is quick, so be careful not to set it on fire. After all the circles are done; stagger them on top of each other.  I used my Crop a Dile and punch a hole and added a brad.

Cutest Sleeve on the Block

Hi Everyone!
I am over the MOON with how today's project turned out!  Now if you read my blog, you know I am not a sewer..want to be...but not! So I cheat and use a glue gun! One day I'll take a sewing class, when I have time! But who knows when that will be!  Anyways....I've seen on a lot of sewing blog ladies making cute coffee cup sleeves, well I wanted to make one too..but the trick was doing it no sew!  As soon as I saw the new SU! Holiday Mini and the AWESOME new Fabrics we have and Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets, I knew what I was going to make!  This is it! My Cutest Sleeve on the Block for my take out coffee cups!  Just like we all now bring our reusable grocery bags with us shopping, now I'm going to bring my reusable coffee sleeve with me when I'm getting my coffee! Every little bit helps, right!
 Now I want everyone to help out the planet, so I thought a FREE tutorial would be nice!   This is an all SU! Project, and the SUPPLIES you will need are:
Deck the Halls Fabric & Buttons, Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet (OMG I LOVE THESE), , Trim XL Die, ( ALL on page 16-17 of the Holiday Mini which you can down load on your right), Big Shot, Circle #2 Die ,5/16" Brad, Early Espresso C/S 12x12, Craft & Paper Scissors; 2 Cardboard coffee cup sleeve from your favorite coffee house! Check your recycle box ! And you will need a hot glue gun.

1. Open up your coffee sleeve, trace with chalk on the back side of your fabric a slightly bigger shape then your sleeve; you need enough to wrap around your sleeve, so at least an 1" bigger.

2. Now cut out your fabric with your Craft & Paper scissors; THESE ARE A MUST for fabric, they are the same quality as a good pair of fabric scissors! Mine NEVER touch paper, they are only used for fabric and ribbon!

3.Next place your fabric, back side down in your Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet; follow direction on package. These stuff transfers adhesive to your project for you to apply to paper.   TIP I actually used my Decor Elements applicator as I found it worked better on such a large surface.  SU! Does sell the Fabric Adhesive Roll as well, but I was too lazy to go up stairs to get my iron! This worked well as I was putting it onto paper.

4. Once the adhesive is transferred onto your fabric, pull away and carefully put on your table (it is now super sticky) and center your cardboard sleeve on top of your sticky fabric.  Start with the big edges and fold over to the back; do your sides next.  Trim off any excess in the corners.

5. Now take your 2nd sleeve and place it inside your fabric one; you are going use this as a guide to seal your fabric sleeve with a hot glue gun.  Apply Hot Glue to the edge and fold over and hold for a few seconds.

6. Once dry, remove 2nd sleeve. Thread up a Deck the Halls button with Linen Thread and glue down to cover seem.

7. To decorate it; I cut a Early Espresso 12x12 C/S with the Big Shot and Trim XL Die and adhered it with the Multipurpose adhesive. Just follow the simple direction on the package! 2 seconds work! And to make the lollipop flowers, I cut the other two fabric patters from Deck the Halls Designer Fabric(you get 3 patters in one package for $12.50, each piece is 28"x 18") with the #2 Circles Die and the big shot.  I also threw in a piece of sparkly tulle (non su!); I glue gunned each layer of circles and squished the fabric to gather it while the glue was hot.  Used my Crop a Dile to punch a hole and added a neutrals brad in Very Vanilla!

DONE!  Now one thing I forgot was to make the inside pretty, you may want to finish it off on the inside

Newsprint Gift Bag with Vintage Flower Tutorial

Well I have gone outside my crafty box today and made a paper 3D item! That is SO not me! So I thought it was time to make it ME!  And it was so easy with the Northshore Stampers Class Planner!  I soon as I saw that planner I knew I had to have it to teach me how to make that gorgeous bag!  I wish I could get one made in cloth as I would carry this every where! Do you like it?? How could you not?  Now I can't give you the direction but you can buy the file over at Angela's Blog for only $5, it includes CARDS for that price as well!!
I did change the paper I used and I change mine up by closing it with Velcro in the center.  I also made that cute flower embellishment with the new 5/8" Victoria Crochet Trim.  Want to make the flower? It is so easy.  Follow my tutorial!!

You will need 16" of the Victorian Crochet Trim (118481)

; a circle of Very Vanilla and Chip board; I used the Circle #2 Die and the Big Shot to cut out the 2nd smallest circle. One Antique Brad (117873); A Glue Gun,  and a Big Bite Crop a dile.

Glue your Vanilla C/S to you chipboard; and then cover your circle with hot glue.  I'm sure you could use sticky strip if you wanted.  

Starting on an outside edge, cover the outside with the edge of your lace. Work quickly with the hot glue. Following the same circle movement, keep swirling inside the whole circle.

Once you get to the center, cut off the excess.  Tidy up both edges by making sure they are glued down.  Now I punched a hole with a BIG BITE not the small crop a dile; I found I just could not get around all the layers with regular crop a dile without squishing the lace.  Then I place my antique brad in to the center.  You could put a button instead if you don't have the big bite.

*You could easily make this into a hair pin by using a vanilla piece of felt instead of the chip board! So Pretty!

Window Sheet Flower Tutorial

Hi Everyone
As promised, here is a tutorial on window sheet clear flowers I made last week on this card.  I decided while I was making the flower for the tutorial today, that I may as well make another project to go with it.  So today's LO is made with the same paper as yesterdays, Nursery Suite Specialty.  And again, NOT a baby in sight!  This paper is just fun! I love the shapes!!  I am also tag teaming up this post with a challenge over at Stampin Royalty; it's a picture inspiration today. The picture is full of banners, so that is where my inspiration came from to make the 'jaimie" banner.  I attached the wee banner down with tooth picks! How fun is that!  The cover of a scrapbook magazine I got this month had tooth picks holding on the square title, and I thought how fun, banked the idea until I had something to do with it!  I made the banner with the scallop square punch and the 1 1/4" square, folded in half around the tooth pick.  The big wavy trim is from the new XL Tasteful Trim Die in the Holiday Mini, I cut it with Early Espresso C/S.  Did you see the bird? I added a little peak on his head to make him look like a blue jay; this is just the tip of the wing attached to the back of his head. Lastly, if you look closely, I alternated the sticky back Rhinestones & Pearls around the circle.
OK onto the tutorial:

I used 2 Fancy Flower XL, and 1 1/4 " circle punch outs from the Widnow Sheets Medium thickness. Plus a 1" circle of C/S to cover the brad.  You will also need one brad, heat tool, and tweezer or scissors.

Layer your two flowers, stagger the petals; put the clear circle on top of them,  and then the C/S, punch hole with crop a dile and place brad in center.* WARNING* for this one I used a square brad; it melted! But the circle ones on the card did not! So you may want to put a cheap brad in to start, then change it out.

Hold your flower with scissors or tweezers as it gets SUPER hot once you turn the heat gun on.

Next, hold you heat gun in the center and let it all melt. You can move it around the sides to encourage it to melt where you want.  Don't bother from the back though as the plastic moves towards the heat, it will just warp it the wrong way! So top & sides only.  Takes a few minutes to melt, be patient!

Try different shape punches; it looks good with nesting circles as well!

Scallop Flower Tutorial

Hi Everyone

I thought today I would post a little picture tutorial on how to make a scalloped paper flower.

Step 1: Punch out 4-6 Scallops out of Card Stock. You can change the size of your flower by changing your size of scallop punch,  SU! 2 3/8" Scallop punch 118874, is great for 12x12 Scrapbook pages and use 6, and the 1 3/4" Scallop 119854, is great for cards with 4 scallops. This one is made with 4 smaller scallops.

Step 2: THIS IS IMPORTANT! Spritz each scallop with water, this will break down the fibers and make the next step easier, and improve the look of your flower.

Step 3: Crumple your scallops.

Step 4. Un-crumple and stagger layer your scallops.  With Paper Piercing Tool 116631 and Mat Pack 105826, poke a hole in the center.  Add any brad.

Step 5. Place scallops in your hand and squish together! All done! It will dry in a few minute nice and stiff so it will hold it's form.

Now go and make some flowers!
